Marking of equipment – Directorate of Fisheries
From January 1, 2022, new requirements for marking traps and nets in recreational fishing apply. This is in addition to the requirement for marking of the buoy.
The mark must be attached to the upper part of the trap or net and must withstand saltwater and rough use. It should be made of solid material that does not come loose and thus does not contribute to marine littering.
If multiple devices are linked, the requirement applies to each individual trap in the link.
Also, gathering and collection traps used for storing shellfish in the sea must be marked in the same way.
For lobster fishing, there is an additional requirement:
Each trap must have at least one buoy that is clearly marked with the fisher's participant number, name, and address.
Commercial fishermen must mark with the vessel's registration number.
From January 1, 2022, each individual trap must be marked – regardless of whether it stands alone or in a line.
