Extreme weather "Amy 2025" – a reminder of how vulnerable fishing can be
The havoc caused by the extreme weather “Amy 2025” has created significant challenges for fishermen along the Norwegian coast. Strong gusts of wind, high waves, and strong currents led to many losing both traps, nets, and other fishing gear. According to preliminary figures, over 1,500 lost traps were recorded just in October, but no one knows for sure how many were actually lost.
Lost gear quickly turns into ghost fishing, where traps and nets continue to catch fish, crabs, and lobsters for months – often without the owners ever finding them again. This results in both economic losses and significant environmental problems.
Prevention is the best solution
To prevent valuable equipment from being lost, TrapFinder™ has been developed – a smart and user-friendly solution that allows you to locate tools before they become a problem.
By attaching TrapFinder™ to the fishing gear, a buoy can be automatically released and float to the surface if the trap is not retrieved within a predetermined time. The buoy remains connected to the gear, allowing the fisherman to easily find and retrieve it – even after bad weather and challenging conditions.
Why choose TrapFinder™
Reduces the risk of lost tools and equipment
Simplifies the recovery of objects underwater
Developed for both professional and recreational use
Robust design – built for Norwegian conditions
With TrapFinder™ both the environmental impact and the costs of lost traps are reduced – while you fish safer, smarter, and more sustainably.
