Requirements for marking traps and fishing gear in recreational fishing

If you are engaged in recreational fishing for lobster or other catches, the Directorate of Fisheries has clear requirements for marking fishing gear. To comply with current regulations, fishing gear must be correctly and clearly marked.

At least one buoy or float associated with gear that is in the water must be marked with the owner's name and registered address. In addition, all traps and pots must be marked with trap signs that contain the same information.

When using traps in a line, the marking requirement applies to each individual trap, regardless of placement. This also includes gathering and collective traps.

Proper marking contributes to organized fishing, easier retrieval of gear, and prevention of ghost fishing, while also fulfilling the requirements for legal recreational fishing.

Lobster fishing

For lobster fishing, the same marking requirements apply as for other traps.
In addition, the blow/bend must be applied to participant number. The registration is valid for the current year.
