The lobster fishing has begun – use
Sandnes, October 1, 2025 – Today marks the start of this year's lobster fishing along the entire Norwegian coast. Thousands of traps are set in the sea, and both commercial and recreational fishermen look forward to exciting weeks with one of the coast's most traditional fisheries.
However, while expectations are high, we know that lobster fishing also has a downside: every year, thousands of traps are lost. These become ghost traps, which can continue to catch lobsters, crabs, and fish for years without anyone retrieving the catch. According to the Institute of Marine Research, Norwegian fishermen lose between 20,000 and 30,000 traps annually.
