Handlingsplan mot marin forsøpling – strategi for renere hav og reduksjon av marint avfall

New action plan against marine pollution!

The Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries has launched a new action plan for 2026–2030 to reduce littering from fisheries, recreational fishing, and aquaculture. The goal is to prevent gear from being lost – before it becomes ghost fishing.

«The Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries' goal for the work against marine littering is to make our cleanup work at sea redundant. This requires both preventive measures and technical solutions that make it easier to recover lost gear.»
— Divisional Director Jon-Erik Henriksen, Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries

TrapSaver™ – prevention in practice
Lost pots and gear are one of the biggest sources of marine litter along the Norwegian coast. Every lost pot can continue to catch fish and shellfish for years – as an invisible and destructive ghost trap.

With TrapSaver™ NorTrap introduces a simple and effective solution:
A built-in mechanism automatically releases a buoy after a predefined time if the net is not retrieved. This allows the gear to be easily located and recovered – before it becomes an environmental problem.

Norwegian innovation – in line with the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries' goals
TrapSaver™ is developed in Norway for Norwegian conditions. Robust construction, subsea-approved materials and long service life make the system a natural choice for fishermen who want to reduce losses and contribute to a cleaner ocean.
